Preferred Specimen
1 Sodium Citrated (light blue top) and 1 EDTA (lavender top) tube(s). Send both tubes directly to the Hematology Department. Minimum fill for EDTA is 1 mL. Blue top must be a full draw.
Instructions
Do NOT spin either tube. Avoid hemolysis. Gently invert EDTA 10 times immediately at time of collection.

Clinical Significance
Used to evaluate patients suspected of EDTA mediated platelet clumping. Platelets must be present in adequate numbers and have proper function to aid in hemostasis.
