Platelet Count (Sodium Citrate Tube)Message
Test to be ordered per Hematology Department instruction to client when Blue Top tube is needed to resolve an EDTA induced Platelet Agglutinin.
Platelet in Citrate; Plt count from Blue Tube; Plt Ct on Citrate;
1 Sodium Citrated (light blue top) and 1 EDTA (lavender top) tube(s). Send both tubes directly to the Hematology Department. Minimum fill for EDTA is 1 mL. Blue top must be a full draw.
Do NOT spin either tube. Avoid hemolysis. Gently invert EDTA 10 times immediately at time of collection.
Sodium Citrated (light blue top) tube and EDTA (lavender top) tube

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Rejected for gross hemolysis, clotted, <1 mL, improper specimen type, >48 hours old, frozen.
